NCHBA ……Working for you! The next 10 issues of the North Carolina BUILDER will highlight one NCHBA staff. Our goal is to better inform you who we are and how we can help you in your everyday business.
Michelle Anysz was born and raised in Erie, PA, located on Lake Erie centrally between Buffalo, NY and Cleveland, OH, which is known for its cold winters and Lake Effect snow that annually produces 100+ inches during the winter months.
While a Junior at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (EUP), with the maiden name Chrzanowski, she met Greg Anysz, who was fresh out of the Army and taking advantage of the GI bill to help pay for his education. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Speech Communications, Anysz worked full time and went on to earn a Master’s degree at EUP while the courtship continued with Greg.
The two joined a history class and traveled together down the Santa Fe Trail in New Mexico while Michelle wrote her Master’s Thesis entitled “Examination of a 'Road Course': Organizational Communication Outside of Traditional Boundaries.”
While in school the two took advantage of any outdoor activity including camping, hiking, mountain climbing, downhill skiing, kayaking, biking, and traveling. After hiking Mount Washington, the highest elevation in New England, located in New Hampshire, Greg initiated a surprise marriage proposal.
In 2000 the couple moved to North Carolina, which offered many career opportunities for the couple to choose from, and finally had their Big Fat Polish wedding in 2001, which took place in Pennsylvania.
While living in Durham, NC, Anysz worked for Duke University Medical Center in the Department of Development and Alumni Affairs. She assisted with writing and editing for publications as well as maintaining the department’s website. After a year she tossed the idea to make the move to a smaller organization that did not have a large chain of management hierarchy. She joined the Raleigh Regional Association of Realtors in 2001, where she was the first hire for the position of Marketing/Communications Coordinator.
In January 2004 Anysz joined the NCHBA family as the first hire for the Director of Communication position. As head of Communication, Anysz coordinates and distributes the Monday Morning Briefing newsletter, NCHBA Today newsletter, and also sends out the weekly Legislative Report newsletter (during General Assembly session). She is also the Editor of the monthly North Carolina Builder magazine, which is distributed to over 16,000 members and is the webmaster of both the www.nchba.com website. She produces press releases as necessary to promote NCHBA and also works closely with the NCHBA staff to ensure quality, timeliness & consistency of all communication efforts.
“Many of my friends in college veered out of the Communications field after graduation,” states Anysz. “By moving to North Carolina, I have been granted the opportunity to stay in the Communications field – which would not have been an option if I had not left my home state of Pennsylvania where the opportunity just was not there. By working for NCHBA I have the dream career, which allows me to do the work I love while working for a great group of Executive Officers/Secretaries, members, and staff. I truly am a very lucky individual.”
Michelle and Greg Anysz welcomed their first child, Madison, into the world in June 2005. They continue to travel, bike, swim, and hike with their new addition. She is already showing signs that she will be a great “climber!”
