Thousands of N.C. Employers Seeking Minimum Wage Info

A press release from the North Carolina Department of Labor

RALEIGH-N.C. Department of Labor officials said Friday the agency is taking orders from frantic businesses seeking labor law posters with the state's new minimum wage of $6.15 an hour that the state legislature approved effective Jan. 1.

Labor department officials said the agency recently had received thousands of requests from businesses fearful of being fined or penalized for not having the latest labor poster.

"We would never fine an employer unless the employer just blatantly refused to put the poster up," Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry said.  "I personally don't know of any employer who has refused to take a free poster from one of our inspectors."  To read the full release click here.

Pauline McLean, January/February 2007 SPIKE of the Month

Congratulatons to Pauline McLean, member of Wilkes County HBA and January/February 2007 SPIKE of the Month!  McLean states: "Recruiting memberships is like an opportunity to sell.  First, describe the merchandise, then, ask for the sale.  We do this daily, and love every minute. Every member should focus on retaining this new member.  Friendliness or neighborly is excellent toward retention of membership.  I feel so welcome at Wilkes County Home Builder's meetings.  Interesting programs and delicious foods are retainers for membership.  Most enjoyable for me!"  To read more about Pauline click here.
