The North Carolina Home Builders Association announced Wednesday the retirement of Assistant Executive Vice President and Director of Government Affairs, R. Paul Wilms, effective December 31. Wilms will be succeeded by Lisa D. Martin who has served as NCHBA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs since 2001. Wilms will continue to represent NCHBA as a legislative consultant in the 2009 Session of the General Assembly.
"NCHBA has become one of the most respected voices in the public policy arena because of the competence, integrity and professionalism that Paul has demonstrated during his 19-year tenure with us," said NCHBA Executive Vice President Mike Carpenter. "While Paul has set a high bar, we are confident that Lisa's talents and experience well prepare her to continue the tradition of excellence that our members and policymakers have come to expect from NCHBA."
Sergeant Joey Bozik and his wife Jayme were given the keys to a brand new home on October 27 as part of the project Operation: Coming Home, which honors war veterans with a brand new home. Now the couple is all settled into their new home and expecting a baby Dec. 24.
Bozik was injured in a mine explosion in Iraq in 2004, and as a result, lost parts of both legs and an arm. He is one of few surviving triple amputees.
Operation: Coming Home started as a collaborative effort between the Triangle Real Estate and Construction Veterans (TREACV) and The Military Veterans Task Force (MVTF), a special group formed through the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County. The group asked the Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) to identify a deserving soldier and Joey was selected to receive the group's first "Hero's Home."
The 2,600-square-foot home, located in Southern Oaks Community in Fuquay-Varina, was built and donated by the Royal Oaks Building Group and Atreus Homes and Communities. The land was donated by Gaines and Company and Royal Oaks Building Co. The HBA of Raleigh-Wake County gave a cash donation of $25,000, and the Triangle Builders Guild donated $10,000. Stock Building Supply donated all construction materials.
Please join the North Carolina Home Builders Association at the 4th Quarter Board Meeting and Installation to thank all of our 2008 officers for their year of dedicated service and welcome our new officers for 2009. The event will be held Dec. 10-11 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, 4700 Emperor Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.
The first day will consist of committee meetings, and then the evening festivities begin with a welcome reception for NCHBA members at 6:00 p.m. Members will then enjoy a banquet dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by the culmination of the evening -- the passing of the gavel from 2008 President Ray Rhodes of Sanford to 2009 President Frank Wiesner of Durham, the association's 45th president.
In addition to the installation of the new state officers, members of the North Carolina Professional Women in Building, trustees of the North Carolina Builder Institute and officers for the Local Executive Officers and Elected Secretaries will take their oaths of office, beginning a new year of service to the association. The evening will end with music and dancing.
