| | OBHBA collects donations for local food pantry | | | | The Outer Banks HBA Board of Directors voted the local Food Pantry as its official charity in 2009. Even though unemployment in Dare County is at an current all-time high, the donations continue to come.
More than $3,500 was contributed from the 2008 fall Parade of Homes following OBHBA's annual food drive, which netted about two tons of food.
So far this year, a collection of canned goods or a raffle has been held at every membership meeting for the food pantry. Additionally, the decision was made to ask for non-perishable food items or cash donations in lieu of an admission fee at the recent Home Improvement Expo. Efforts netted almost $300 in cash donations and a pick-up truck full of food, collected by registration staffers. The food was delivered to the pantry by Community Outreach liaison Jay Hart and wife Jeanne, of Hart Power Solutions and Hart Realty & Construction.
