NCHBA Executive Officers Council
Committee Description: Executive Officers Council is a round-table format of the latest information on issues relevant to North Carolina associations. If an EO’s association is having an issue, he or she can bring it up at this session and other EO’s give their input. This is valuable because many times another association has dealt with the same issue, and the EO can give great advice. Why reinvent the wheel? We also share events that have been successful in the previous quarter.

NCHBA EO Forms — due December 31,2011!
Local HBA leadership information is due to NCHBA NO LATER THAN Friday, December 31, 2011. This is the first link in a chain of information we need in order to keep our communication lines open with you.
- President/Executive Officer or Elected Secretary in 2012. (Your local association president, who should be a builder member, is automatically a State Director)
- Committee Representatives – NC BUILD-PAC, Associate and Membership Committees
- State Directors
Your association is entitled to elect State Directors and Alternate State Directors in proportion to its builder membership. Please review Article VII, Section 2, (A) of the NCHBA By-Laws in order to determine the number of State Directors you are allowed. According to the NCHBA bylaws, your builder membership, as of August 31 of the preceding year in which the directors will serve, determines the number of directors entitled to serve from your local HBA. For example, if you have 50 builder members as of August 31, 2011, your HBA is entitled to 2 state directors who will serve on the 2012 NCHBA Board of Directors. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please feel free to call the NCHBA office.
Review the Membership Summary as of August 31, 2011 here, and a copy of Article VII of the NCHBA By-Laws here. Article VII, Section 3 of the By-Laws addresses the “Tenure of Office”. As you will notice, we have extended the deadline for notification from November 1 to December 31, 2011.
You may submit the forms electronically by using the button on each form.

Portion of membership dues eligible for business expense
Dues paid to NCHBA are not deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. However, they may be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses subject to restrictions imposed as a result of association lobbying activities. NCHBA estimates that the nondeductible portion of your 2012 dues—the portion that is allocable to lobbying—is 39 percent. Thus, for a member who pays their NCHBA dues of $60, 39 percent or $23.40 will not be eligible as a business expense. Similarly, for an affiliate member who pays their NAHB dues of $5.00 in 2012, 39 percent or $1.95 will not be eligible for deduction as a business expense.
Bonded Builders offers “Spirit of Membership” award
Bonded Builders Warranty Group will award a $35 gas gift card to local association members who bring in their first ever new member that is approved by your association. Along with the $35 gas card we will provide a framed certificate of recognition printed on fine parchment paper. Simply send Bonded Builders a list of names of recipients so you (or we) can give the award at your membership meeting. All we ask is that, as in any promotion, you let your members know the gas card is from Bonded Builders. This promotion is simply designed to support local home builder associations and does not require builder participation in our programs. Any member of your association is eligible to receive this award when they bring in their first ever new member to your Association. Others can also receive the award by bringing a paid new member application to a local golf tournament. Their recruit may also receive this award should they play in the same tournament.
