NC Department of Health and Human Services Issues Interim COVID-19 Guidance for Construction Sites

Last Friday the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued its Interim Guidance for Construction Sites document. NCHBA was neither consulted by DHHS for any input in the preparation of this document nor were we contacted about distributing it to our members after its release. However, throughout this COVID-19 crisis, NCHBA has been committed to providing relevant safety, public health and regulatory information to our members. In furtherance of that objective, we are making this document available (please click on this link).

Generally, the guidance sets forth a number of recommendations for best practices on the worksite and related matters. The only mandatory component is that those on the worksite wear face coverings as required by the Governor’s Executive Order 147. For more detail on this requirement, see our Member Update: NCHBA Responds to COVID-19 Crisis of 06/24/20 to all NCHBA members.

The guidance document’s recommendations appear largely directed at larger commercial and multi-family construction sites which tend to congregate more workers, subcontractors and vendors than does a typical single-family residential construction site. However, to the extent that these recommendations make sense on your site, we would urge your strong consideration of them. After all, it is in our best interest, as well as that of the community, to take all reasonable steps to stop the spread of this virus.

Finally, Builders Mutual has prepared an updated dual-language safety poster regarding COVID-19 protocols on the job-site. We recommend sharing this resource electronically with your employees as well as physically posting it on the job site.
