NCHBA Invests in the Next Generation of Construction Professionals
The future of North Carolina’s construction workforce starts with students like these.
NCHBA Executive Vice President Tim Minton recently recognized Joshua Scism, Nehemiah Smith, and Ethan Lancaster, three of this year’s Workforce Development Regional Scholarship winners.
Through the NC Home Builders Educational & Charitable Foundation, 23 students throughout North Carolina received a total of $28,250 in Workforce Development Regional Scholarships this year to continue their education in construction-related fields.
Joshua Scism
Joshua Scism, a graduate of Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough, will attend Alamance Community College. He is a two-time North Carolina SkillsUSA champion in Cabinet/Furniture Making and placed fourth nationally at SkillsUSA.
Nehemiah Smith
Nehemiah Smith, a graduate of Northern Guilford High School in Browns Summit, will attend Guilford Technical Community College. His interest in carpentry was inspired by working alongside his father on building projects. Fun fact: he is pictured with his carpentry teacher (far right).
Ethan Lancaster
Ethan developed an early interest in HVAC through hands-on experience with his uncle. He plans to complete his degree, start his own HVAC business and provide skilled service in his hometown of Plymouth.
