“Professional” is a word commonly used to describe members of the NCHBA. Professionals are well-rounded business people committed to be as knowledgable as possible about their profession. You can expect professionals to know what they are doing and to do it in an upstanding, efficient manner, following standard, accepted practices. Professionals develop businesses designed to provide outstanding service over the long haul and they must invest heavily in relevant educational opportunities.
The NCHBA has a constant commitment to increasing professionalism within the building industry. To that end it directly offers a wide variety of educational programs for its members and supports our local schools and associations in their efforts to train future professionals for the industry.
Through the North Carolina Builder Institute (NCBI) members can follow a course of study to set them apart in the following areas: Accredited Builder (AB) or Accredited Master Builder (AMB), Accredited Remodeler (AR), Accredited Associate (AA) or Accredited Master Associate (AMA), or Accredited Residential Superintendent (ARS). Recipients of these designations use the knowledge to better their business and the designations themselves to market their professionalism.
At the 21st Century Building Expo & Conference a wide variety of educational offerings are presented: NCBI courses, designation courses from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and individual 1 to 2-hour seminars on a wide variety of topics of importance for builders, remodelers, and others associated with the building industry.
Developing professionals for careers in construction is also important to the NCHBA. Each year we recognize an outstanding high school teacher in the construction trades. The North Carolina Home Builders Educational and Charitable Foundation provides college scholarships for students entering a construction-related major.
The NCHBA also serves as a knowledge-base for educational seminars in specific localities being offered by its local association members.
