Raleigh-Wake HBA Student Chapter Wins National Competition
In an impressive feat for a chapter formed just last year, the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County’s Student Chapter captured first place in the Construction Management (Secondary Programs) competition at this year’s International Builders’ Show.
What sets this group apart is its structure: unlike most NAHB student chapters, which are tied to a single school, Raleigh-Wake’s is a county-wide secondary chapter open to any high school student in Wake County – public, private, charter, or homeschool. This broader model is already expanding access to real-world construction experience.
The chapter was created through a partnership with Wake County Public Schools and the HBA’s Workforce Development Committee, where NCHBA President-Elect David Price played a key role in getting the initiative off the ground.
“Seeing these students earn a national award in their very first year shows exactly what can happen when industry and education work hand in hand,” Price said. “This county-wide model opens doors for every interested student in Wake County, and it’s already helping us build the next generation of North Carolina’s construction workforce.”
